Paint correction · Santa Cruz County

Swirls come out. They do not get filled.

Mobile paint correction in Santa Cruz County, from Scotts Valley and Capitola to San Jose, Monterey and Pebble Beach.

Every wash a car has ever had leaves fine marks in the paint. Correction is machine polishing that takes those marks out of the clear coat, so the paint reflects cleanly again and stays that way.

What it actually is

A wax hides it.
A polish removes it.

Hold a bright light on the paint, or look at it in direct sun, and you can see a spiderweb of fine scratches in the clear coat. Those are wash marks, and they are what makes a dark car look dull and flat even when it is clean.

Glazes and waxes fill those marks in temporarily. They look great for a few weeks, then the marks come back, because they never left. Correction removes a microscopic layer of clear coat, down to the bottom of the scratch, so there is nothing left to come back.

There is a limit to how often it can be done. A car only has so much clear coat, which is why the paint gets inspected before any polishing starts, and why a car that has been corrected properly should then be protected rather than left to collect the same marks again.

Same panel, same light

This is what removing it looks like.

An '84 Silverado, single panel, before and after. Look at what the overhead lights do. On the left they smear across the surface. On the right they hold their shape, because there is nothing left in the clear coat to scatter them.

Two levels

How far do you want to go?

Both are real correction. The difference is how many polishing stages the paint gets, and how deep the marks are that come out.

The process

Nothing gets polished until the paint has been looked at.

01

Assess

The paint gets looked at under proper light, panel by panel, before a price is confirmed. Some cars need less than the owner expects. A few need more.

02

Decontaminate

Wash, then chemical and clay decontamination. Polishing over embedded grit just drags it across the panel.

03

Correct

Machine polish, worked in small sections, then a finer polish over the top so the paint is left clear rather than hazy. Trim and edges taped where they need to be.

Paint Correction

Paint EnhancementA single machine stage that takes out the majority of light swirls and wash marks and puts the gloss back. The right call on most cars in decent shape.

Which one a car needs is decided by looking at the paint, not by a table, so the exact figure comes after we have seen it. Corrected paint has no protection on it the day it is finished, which is the argument for coating it. Coating pricing is here →
Common questions

Straight answers.

How long does it take?

An enhancement is usually a full day on site. A full correction takes longer, and on some cars it runs across two visits. You get the real timing when the car is assessed, not an optimistic guess.

Will it come back?

The marks we removed are gone for good. New ones come from how the car gets washed afterwards, which is why a coating and a maintenance program beat a drive-through car wash.

Can you do it at my house?

Yes. The rig carries its own water and power. A driveway, a garage or an office lot all work.

Do I need correction before a coating?

Yes, or at minimum a gloss polish. A coating seals in whatever is under it, so coating swirled paint means keeping those swirls for years.
